Dr. Lone Sorensen (UoL), Prof. Dr. Michael Brüggemann (UHH), and Dr. Matthias Revers (UHH/UoL) are leading the project, funded by the University of Hamburg and the University of Leeds as part of strengthening strategic international partnerships.
We are investigating:
To what extent can we detect ideologically, affectively and epistemically polarised discourse in public conversations about climate change?
How does the epistemic dimension of polarisation manifest itself in citizens’ interaction on science-related issues such as climate change?
Which strategies are most effective to mitigate ideologically, affectively and epistemically polarised discourses?
The empirical analysis will be conducted in two different cultural domains, the UK and Germany. The two countries display similar levels of climate denial.
